CDOT R1 Floyd Hill Roundabouts

CDOT selected Stolfus through a mini-RFP process to lead this multidisciplinary project to design two roundabouts off interchanges between I-70 and US 40 as part of the Floyd Hill Early Projects. These roundabouts involved unique design challenges, such as steep approach grades and rock slopes adjacent to both roundabouts. The steep grades required evaluating alternatives for walls, with a soil nail wall the preferred alternative. With one lead roadway design engineer designing each roundabout, Stolfus was able to advance the design of both roundabouts in tandem to meet the aggressive schedule. Construction was completed between Fall 2023 and August 2024 keeping CDOT on schedule for the remainder of the major I-70 improvements to the Floyd Hill area.
